FOR THE WEEK OF: May 21-25 NEWSFLASH!-NEW NOTES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
Multicultural Pot Luck Dinner and Art Show – Wednesday, May 30 at 6:00 pm – You should have received a hard copy of the cover letter and registration form for this annual event. Every student at Webster will have one of his/her Art Studio pieces on display. Families each bring food enough to serve six – either an appetizer, salad, main dish, or dessert – with your dish representing your family’s cultural heritage. Everyone shares the food and our students’ artwork. Please return the registration form as soon as possible! You do not want to miss this family event at Webster! VIEW FLYER/REGISTRATION FORM Recycled Bags and Wrappers For Art Studio – For our last project this year in art studio we need empty potato chip bags, large or small, and candy bar wrappers. These bags and wrappers are made of a shiny, coated mylar paper which can be cut into strips, folded and woven to make a variety of objects. Send them in with your students or leave them in the office. Attention 5th Grade Parents – We leave for Yosemite on Monday, June 4. Please begin assembling the items your child will need for the trip. Malibu High Athletic Field Lights – Malibu High is asking everyone in the Malibu community to contribute to their campaign to pay for permanent lights on their athletic field. This is an improvement that Malibu students and families will enjoy for decades to come. Please see the attached letter from Principal Mark Kelly for more information. Upcoming Events: As the school year draws to a close, there are several great special events coming up that you will not want to miss:
Classroom Volunteer Lunch Supervision Schedule – Each week, two classrooms’ parents are asked to come at least one day during the week to help us with lunchtime playground supervision. Each class will only be assigned to a week three or four times during the year. We are hoping that parents will be able to plan ahead and make themselves available just twice during the entire year. We have found that this is an effective way to organize parents to help us keep our students safe during lunch. Parents are needed from 11:40-1:00. The schedule for the next four weeks is:

More Important Information
Summer School Program in Malibu – We strongly recommend the Summer Adventure for our students. It keeps them in school, using their brains and interacting with other kids. The program is at Pt. Dume this year from June 25 through July 20, every day from 8:30-12:30. Please see this message below: Dear Webster Families, My name is Chris Cullen and I have been teaching for the Santa Monica-Malibu USD for over 12 years. This upcoming summer the Santa Monica-Malibu PTA Council and Education Foundation will again offer Summer Adventure to the children of Malibu. I am very excited about the opportunity to lead this program as the principal and would like to provide a tailored and enriching experience for your child. Registration materials are available in the Webster Office. Thank you, Pepperdine Summer Camps – There are summer Girl’s Basketball Camps and a Parent Daughter Clinic at Pepperdine University this summer (see flyer for details) Santa Monica College Summer Reading Skills Classes – SMC is offering a series of reading classes for children who are entering kindergarten in August and for students entering 1st-11th grades. Tuition and materials fees vary by program level. Classes meet once a week for five weeks (see flyer for details). Homework Club Coming To An End – The last week of Homework Club will be the week of Monday, May 7 to Thursday, May 10. PTA Reserved Parking Spaces – The two parking spaces just before the entrance to the drive through are RESERVED AT ALL TIMES for the families that won them at the Evening Event auction. They paid quite handsomely for the privilege and are entitled to everyone else’s respect for their parking place. Thanks! Sponsor Back Cover of 2012-13 3rd-5th Grade Student Agenda Planners? – Every year we buy an agenda planner for each of our 3rd-5th grade students. They are trained to use these to record their homework assignments every day and make other notes. There will be between 180 and 200 students receiving these planners. The back cover is available for an advertiser/ donor to purchase for $500. Please contact our Office if you might be interested. Cafeteria Balances – For the first time, parents’ cafeteria balances, positive and negative, will be carried over to next year. This is an improvement over the old system in which any left over balance was taken by the District. Other Cafeteria News: Thursday, May 17 is the last day to purchase the “Meal Deal” (20 lunches for $50 – a discount of 50 cents per lunch). Checks for any cafeteria purchases will not be accepted after May 25 – cash only from then on. Sportsmanship Recognition – Coach Greg and Coach Daryl will be recognizing students who they see demonstrating excellent sportsmanship with a special award ticket. All of the tickets will be placed in a drawing for new playground balls and one winner will be drawn each day. The balls have been donated by Pepperdine and other private donors. Students will also be able to redeem two sportsmanship tickets for a prize from the Student Store. Many thanks to the coaches for developing and implementing this program. |
